One way that last.fm doesn’t work well for me is that it does not track things that I listen to on my iTunes, nor things that I stream from the Internet Archive and other sites.
So it may not be the best guage of my own listening habits, although I have been streaming an awful lot of music from that site in the last month or so.

I think it is healthy to have a wide range of taste in music. I know I do, even though I may listen within a narrow stylistic groove for an extended period of time before moving to something else.

...
You should download that album I linked to by Klimperei, out of all the people I know, I think you especially would enjoy it.

>"I wonder sometimes about whether other musicians occupying the underground do a lot of listening to their contemporaries and peers...."

I too wonder. I have a few of y'all befriended on last.fm, and it is interesting
to observe your listening habits. As for people listening to their peers, there don't seem to be any patterns worth generalizing from. I've seen some
individuals who only listen to other netlabel/microlabel artists of kindred genre.

I listen to my peers maybe about 10% of the time. Most of what I listen to seems confined from 1920-1939 and 1964-1976 and then a fair sprinkling of
stuff from the past 10 or 15 years.

I had once thought of putting together a sort of podcast/documentary about
the recordings I consider influences on my sound. There's a chance I may
still, although I'm not sure who'd be interested enough to listen to it.
